On Saturday, June 16th, members of the public gathered at Millenium Park in downtown Calgary to celebrate the second annual Vegfest. This is an opportunity for people to be exposed to another message about how to improve their own health and that of the planet and its animal inhabitants. The message encourages people to consider what is on their plate and choose foods that are free of animal products.
The emphasis of Vegfest is on a “vegan” diet which is free of any animal products whether on your plate or on your back. The motivations for choosing this way of eating and living is often varied – it may be for the protection of animal welfare or for planetary environmental reasons or for human health.
The first two reasons might lead someone to make different dietary selections – like consuming deep-fried products, fake meats and cheeses that are unfortunately loaded with artery-harming fat or junk foods loaded with fat, salt and sugar.
If your first motivation is human health then your choices might be different. You might choose to eat whole plant-based foods that are free of oil (a highly “processed product”); avoid the fake meats and cheeses as they contain insulin-like growth hormones that cause all cells to grow faster – including cancer cells and instead choose whole foods from these food groups: fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes.
When you put your health first, it increases your chances substantially of living longer, with more vitality and can prevent or reverse such lifestyle diseases like heart disease, diabetes and even some forms of cancer as well as other degenerative diseases.
Where ever you are on your path of dietary change or for what ever the motivation – feeling your very best self can not only be personally rewarding – it can be lifesaving – for you, our planet and all its animal inhabitants. Wow – your fork and what you put on it, really can make a powerful difference!!
While at the Vegfest, Fork Smart offered a free draw for an:
Instant Pot® Lux 6-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, 6 Quart | STAINLESS STEEL
The winner was drawn on Sunday, June 17th and the Instant Pot was delivered to Lana Roberts of Calgary.
